Randall T. Shrout spent the early part of his career putting cases together for the Sacramento County District Attorney. For the last 24 years he has spent his career taking them apart — for the people the state comes after.
From the courthouse steps to your corner
Randall T. Shrout began his legal career as a prosecutor for the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. He learned the machinery of a criminal case from the inside — how charges get filed, how evidence is assembled, how plea offers are calculated, and where a case is strong or quietly weak.
Around 2012 he crossed the aisle to criminal defense, and in 2015 he opened his own practice. Since then he has built the Law Office of Randall T. Shrout into a firm that serves people facing charges across all 58 California counties — from a first-time DUI to a serious felony.
That path matters. Most defense lawyers have only ever seen a case from one side. Randall has read the playbook from both. When he reviews a traffic stop, a search, a breath or blood test, or the way a statement was taken, he is reading it the way the prosecution does — looking for the same cracks they hope you never find.
An arrest is not a conviction
That belief sits at the center of how this office works. Being arrested is frightening, and it can feel like the outcome is already decided. It is not. An arrest is an accusation — the start of a process, not the end of one. You have rights, the state carries the burden of proof, and every stage of a case is an opportunity to challenge how the evidence was gathered and whether the charges hold up.

Education & admissions
Randall earned his undergraduate degree at California State University, Northridge, and his law degree at the University of La Verne College of Law. He was admitted to the State Bar of California in 2001 (Bar No. 213838) and is admitted to practice before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, giving him a footing in both state and federal court.
How he practices
